McLaren: Everything Changed in AD 70

He [Brian McLaren] laughed and said, "If you don’t know what the word eschatology means, you’re blessed!...I believe all predictive prophecies were fulfilled in the destruction of the Jewish Temple in AD 70 under the Roman Empire."

Website problems

Planet Preterist is having problems right now, so if you encounter errors which say "Forbidden" or "Internal Server Error" just hit Refresh in your browser and the error should go away. The hosting provider apparently made some changes last night which broke some functionality, and we are working with them to figure out what to fix and how. Sorry for those issues.

Determinism and Responsibility

by Gordon H. Clark

Unless one has been recently disgusted by a surfeit of discussion on this sometimes barren topic, a religious thinker will almost invariably be carried away into a heated argument. This is better than to denominate the question barren, for such an attitude is agnostic, and to be disgusted is merely to be exhausted. Every Christian must face this problem squarely, and especially must the Calvinist so do, since he believes that much of the learned disrespect of Christianity is owing to the loose thinking of Catholics and Arminians.

A Scriptural Case for the Cessation of Spiritual Gifts

Cessationism, the close of the canon and completion of prophecy compliments fulfilled eschatology. A balanced view of the function of prophetic gifts in the first century saints, the centrality of faith, the importance of Scripture and sound doctrine is central to a proper view of cessationism. The only sufficient testimony of God is the Bible. Only faith in Jesus Christ as portrayed in the Bible sufficient knowledge of God. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

'Dr. Armageddon' Supports John McCain

by Gary DeMar

The presidential candidates are looking for support wherever it can be found. With the Moral Majority long retired, and the Coalition of Revival rusing head-long into irrelevance, new king-makers are on the rise. John Hagee is at the top of the list. While the Catholic League has blasted the endorsement because of Hagee’s anti-Catholic rhetoric (McCain has since disavowed Hagee on his anti-Catholic remarks), and the looney left has attacked the endorsement because of his views on homosexuality and abortion, some have picked up on his views related to eschatology, and for good reason. Hagee believes that an inevitable cataclysmic end is near.

Sovereignty and Free Will

by Jack Cottrell
One of the most perplexing problems in theology is how God can maintain His absolute sovereignty while holding man fully responsible for his sin. If God is sovereign, must he not be the ultimate and determinative cause of everything, including the so-called free acts of men? And if so, must we not then conclude that man is not really free and that he is not responsible for his actions? On the other hand, if man is really free to choose between good and evil, must he not then be the ultimate cause of his own actions? And if so, must we not conclude that God is less than sovereign? Is there any way to solve the problem of divine sovereignty and human responsibility?

The Great Depression of the 2010s

Depressions are monetary phenomena caused by central bank issuance of excessive credit. In 1913, the newly created US central bank, the Federal Reserve, began issuing credit-based money in the US. Within ten years, the central bank flow of credit ignited the 1920s US stock market bubble; and shortly thereafter, following the collapse of the bubble in 1929, the world entered its first Great Depression in 1933.

The Eschatology of Being Born Again

“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.’

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you [sing.], unless one [sing.] is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’

Todd Dennis and his Cult of Personal Destruction

by Virgil Văduva
Since I became a Preterist I only spoke with Todd Dennis twice on the phone, so I don't really know the man very well at all; I also don't keep track of everything happening out there in the Preterist netherworld, of who hates who and who shanks who in order to get up to the top. I was therefore quite surprised when a few days ago someone sent me a note with a quote from Todd Dennis: "[I] wait until Planet Preterist was on its last leg & then come in & deliver the death blow." Does it sound like Todd Denis is the kind of guy that would kick someone when he is down? It does to me.

Shacked Up With God (Part 1)

by John McPherson
27 Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell forevermore.
28 For the LORD loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;

They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off... 30 The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom,
And his tongue talks of justice.
