”I also said that ‘if’ a generation was forty years and ‘if’ the generation of the ‘fig tree’ (Matthew 24:32-34) started with the foundation of the state of Israel, then Jesus ‘might come back by 1988.’ But I put a lot of ifs and maybes in because I knew that no one could be absolutely certain.”

Concerned that the Preterist Message was relegating Jesus Christ to a mere P.S. to all its arguments and wanting to possibly leave the Movement. I contacted a friend for a lively conversation about how true is it that Preterism is the only eschatological interpretation that portrays The Gospel of Jesus Christ clearly, accurately and completely!

I told my friend to bite his tongue until I had argued my many points.

Point 1:
Where is Jesus Christ in all this Preterism? Are we just so enamored with the Preterist interpretation (is it a fad)? that we are losing the Message of Jesus Christ and the salvation and sanctification He brings!

Point 2:
How ‘essential’ is Preterism to the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Point 3:
Has the Preterist Movement and its detractors, elevated Preterism to a station of which it is not ‘worthy’?

Point 4:
Really, just what does Preterism contribute to Christianity?

His reply was as follows:

“Let me present to you the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All of your concerns will be answered in light of His Gospel, and please ‘bite your tongue’ until I am finished:

‘Jesus Christ came to earth to live a sinless life and die on The Cross so that the Wrath of God would be averted away from men by His sacrifice making peace between God and men. He was bodily resurrected and returned to The Father and He is coming back soon!’ “

I had to interrupt my friend and I said, “That’s not correct...”

He cut me off.

“Let me finish.” He said. “Let me proclaim the Gospel to you again.”

‘Jesus Christ came to earth to live a sinless life and die on The Cross so that the Wrath of God would be averted away from men by His sacrifice making peace between God and men. He was bodily resurrected and returned to The Father. He has returned and He reigns as King on earth here and now!”

There was silence.

I then understood the importance of proclaiming The Gospel of Jesus Christ by including the truth of Preterism.

The only Gospel we have heard is The Gospel of Jesus Christ with the ‘He's coming back soon’ ending.

The brilliance of The Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaiming His consummated work in the here and now ‘cleared the decks’ for me.

I now see that Preterism is to be hooked up to The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Why? Its Gospel. Its Bible!

Thank you King Jesus for your return and your reign. Even so Lord Jesus... You are here!

Michael,

This TRUTH is exactly why I converted to a preterist position. And it's why we must reform the Church in regards to eschatology. Is it possible a heresy has been in the house ever since someone suggested "Jesus is YET to return"?

Should we call 'a future Christ coming' proclaimation heresy? This is one of the concerns I have with the Preterist Movement. (If I misunderstood you I apologize.) While we are labeled Heretics, it is not according to the Bible but tradition, creeds and confessions. It is wrong for Christians who disagree with us to call us Heretics and it is wrong for Preterists to call other brothers in Christ, Heretics, because our eschatology does not put or keep us in Christ!
Yes, lets attach Preterism to the Gospel of Christ but not attach it so that it determines our salvation and sanctification. Hey, isn't that what our detractors are doing?
Lord Bless,

QUESTIONS: Is Preterism Bible? If so, if one see's the truth of Preterism and 'willfully' does not embrace it, is it Heresy? How much Preterism must one have to be saved or how little to be damned?

Most Preterists will not claim that futurist are heritics. Thank God!
The problem is that the futurist view is so far out that it really does greatly change the gospel and gospel message in a very substantial and direct way.
Almost any other subject that would change the gospel message to this degree would be seen as more severe or more dangerous or more salvation endangering by the Preterist.
Futurism really does change the gospel message!

Most Preterist do not want to even think that they were anything but saved before they became Preterist. This has caused the Preterist to look for.. well a greater sense of tolerance toward the futurist than perhaps would be given if the subject was something else that didn't hit home so hard.

There is a lesson here. We are all but students of scripture.
I am no more saved now than when I was a futurist. My spelling is no better either.
What I am trying to learn is too look for peace first and formost in the name of Jesus Christ. Make love the formost issue.
Even if someone else appears to be "way out", making them feel like trashy heritics for thier view is almost always done to make me feel better about myself. That's worse than furturism. It's pure human glory. And it is no way to reach people or help them.
Our job is not the force people to change. Our job is to do our best to help and learn and grow.
There are exceptions but they are not the norm.
Barry.

Hello Barry,
I agree. In the past I was 'trashing' futurists and not until recently did I realize this was wrong. I have since pulled all caustic and sarcastic items from my web page http://wwww.theamericanpreteristsociety.com/!

The Reformation will be brought on by Jesus Christ and Him alone. Preterism is part of the Gospel. Its going to take lots of time and lots and lots of His love!!!

I won't 'water' down Preterism. But I will 'lift-up' Jesus Christ more and more in His role as King here and now!

Thanks for your comments!
Lord Bless,
Michael
