Death will not be conquered by Jesus returning to the earth. It will be conquered when the church stands up boldly and says, 'We have dominion over the earth!' How else will God be able to show Satan a people for whom death holds no fear, over whom death no longer has any power? When God can do that, Satan's hold on us will be broken forever!"

News: A Young Earth—It’s Extremely Relevant
Posted on Monday, August 25 @ 17:22:42 PDT by Timothy P. Martin

Other by Tim Chaffey
Many Christians have been led to believe that the debate over the age of the earth is unimportant because it is “just a side issue.” In our new book Old-Earth Creationism on Trial, Dr. Jason Lisle and I provide abundant biblical, theological, and scientific evidence to demonstrate that this thinking is erroneous. In this article, allow me to share a brief part of my testimony to show you that this issue is extremely practical.

In the summer of 2006, I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocitic Leukemia (APL). My doctor told me that when I checked in, I was “on the razor blade of life.” I spent a month in the hospital and battled through four grueling rounds of chemotherapy. By God’s grace and the skill of my doctors and nurses, I am now cancer-free.

What does all of this have to do with the age of the earth? Consider the following.

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood. It nearly took my life. Cancer, in its various forms, has taken the lives of millions of people and is also the leading cause of animal death. Scientists have found evidence of this horrible disease in fossils in the ground that are allegedly millions of years old. If the old-earth view is correct, this would mean that cancer was around long before Adam and Eve were created. However, right after making Adam and Eve, God declared that everything He had made was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). This would mean that God must think cancer is “very good.”

This offers some great insight into the young-earth/old-earth conversation and how preterism fits into it all. This statement is outright sick and disturbing, especially coming from a Christian:

Because I am a sinner, I deserve to die. It’s not that there was one particular sin that led to leukemia, but since I have violated the commands of the holy God (as we all have) I deserve to reap the consequences of my actions.

For anyone to justify leukemia using Romans 6 is outrageous:

During my battle with leukemia, I never asked God “Why me?” because I knew why. I knew that it was because of sin—mine and all of humanity’s

Genesis is not addressing the issue of Young/Old earth. This is typical of futurists to jam any idea into scripture. Bad bad bible interpretation. The Bible's purpose is to express spiritual truth. The spiritual realm is different in every way than this natural realm. Genesis is saying "There is one God and it is not you". He made everything not you. If He made everything then we must honor Him as the owner and King of this world. If we don't He simply lets us die in our own stink. If we do honor Him as King He will give us spiritual life so we can go and live in His house of many dwelling places. Death makes this world perfect. Life makes the heavenly realm Perfect.

You still have a chance to eat from the tree of life. Take it. If you do you will see the truth in what I speak.

The Verdict is In (Score: 1)

My goal for sending this article to Virgil was not to start a theological food fight here, or a ignite a spat between preterist forums, or reduce Planet Preterist to a "one-trick pony."

The reason I suggested this article for Planet Preterist is because this column is distilled from Tim Chaffey and Jason Lisle's brand new book, "Old-Earth Creationism On Trial: The Verdict is In."

The book was published in conjunction with Answers in Genesis and has a glowing recommendation on the back cover by Ken Ham.

I do not make it a habit to recommend YEC books; however, this one is a bit different than common YEC literature. This new book was well written and actually interracts with some published OEC authors. The book also makes some startling admissions...

But what really sticks out about this book is the crucial role futurism plays in the arguments (or "court case" presentation) at virtually every point along the way.

EVERY PRETERIST NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK!

What preterists should ask themselves when they read it is this, "Will the hardening of Christians into this view make it easier or more difficult for preterism to be presented to modern Christians?" Or you could ask, "What happens to these authors' case if their futurism is wrong?"

Remember, there are probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children in Christian homes today who are having this material drilled into them one way or another. What does this mean for the future growth of preterism from Christians who grow up in the Church?

Indeed, the verdict is in: Modern young-earth creationism is built squarely on the foundation of eschatological futurism. There are few examples to better demonstrate this than this new book titled "Old-Earth Creationism on Trial: The Verdict is In."

I plan to offer a complete book review in the future. Suffice it for now to consider these snippets:

----------------------

"If the Flood only covered a region of the planet, then young-earth creationism has no mechanism to explain the geological features of the world" p. 10.

"The most serious error is that this practice [allowing for an old earth] necessarily places death, disease, and bloodshed before sin. If there are fossils that are hundreds of millions of years old (as old earthers believe), then those animals must have died before Adam sinned (since we all agree that Adam was not around millions of years ago" p. 27.

"By inserting billions of years into the Bible, the old-earth view places death and suffering before sin (and therefore death and suffering could not be the result of Adam's sin.)... [T]HIS UNDERMINES THE FOUNDATION OF THE GOSPEL ITSELF" [emphasis mine] p. 27.

"From the Scriptures, we know that this carnivorous behavior among some animals must have come after sin, as a result of the Curse. So, the fossils cannot be millions of years old" p. 28.

"Isaiah 65:25-26 prophesied of a peaceful time when 'the wolf and the lamb shall feed together' and 'the lion will eat straw like the ox.' This restoration hearkens back to the original creation when all animals were vegetarian..." p. 29

"In the future, God will create "a new heavens and new earth" (Rev. 21:1). To our knowledge, no Christian believes this will take billions of years to create. Why then insist that it took this long the first time?" p. 29 [One wonders how long God took to make the NH & NE-- was it six literal days? T.M.]

"It is sad to see how such a great Christian man [Bernard Ramm] could side with the scoffers who mock the words of our Lord. The apostle Peter wrote of these people long before the debate over the age of the earth hit the scene...

[Quotes 2 Peter 3:3-6]..." p. 34.

"Perhaps even more important than these points is the philosophy that undergirds these beliefs. These scoffers believe that 'all things continue

Let me ask the question: when someone, anyone, even in the ancient world, read, "heavens and earth" and "clouds" and "stars" and "created" how could they have possibly not have understood that as, gee, "clouds" "heavens" "stars" and " the dirt I am walking on"?
And yet, you guys think that by fantastic gagdets, microscopes, and telescopes can answer the question as to origins of the universe.....I find that to be ARROGANCE. The SAME arrogance that Eve suggested..."hmmm, it APPEARS to be good for food....."

appearances are decieving.....

The fact that some of you here would go on and on and on with Sam, blasting away about things in complete ignorance, is ...well ...probably part of the reason you were denied.
