Funny Stuff
I just picked up my Bible and I held it and I pointed it at one of the edges of the spine and I said Spirit, in the Name of Jesus Christ, my Bible says this is a sword and I command that you be run through with this sword and tormented until you obey me, and I just took the Bible and the edge of the spine and shoved it right at the chest of this man and the demon screamed, Why did you stab me with that thing?! Get it out of me! Take it away! All right, I'll do what you want me to do!

Wow. Great thoughts from Rob. Thanks for posting this Virgil! I enjoyed the "Selah" moments where you see random feet walking and kids going here and there. I was a little confused as to the purpose or "message" in these moments until I realized that they were probably intended to be meditative breaks, permitting the viewer to consider carefully the things that had just been shared and the points that had been made.

I particularly enjoyed his point concerning Jesus' doing things out of a fixed sense of purpose, focussed on his own, personal goal and objectives - not out of a sense of obligation to the "will of the people" or masses. Jesus also took "time out", as Rob also reminds us, to spend time alone re-focusing and communing with His Father. Good points and well made, Rob!

I'm not entirely comfortable with referencing Kierkegaard - the father of modern-day hokey hermeneutics - to be honest. For everyday, ordinary, non-Messianic human beings to try to maintain the kind of focus and single-minded sense of purpose that Jesus had may be counter-productive. In fact, it may throw a person's life out of balance and distort that individual's ability to exercise godly wisdom in everyday decision-making.

This is where I take issue somewhat with Rob's "Shells" message (much as I enjoyed the analogy from his family day at the beach). He indicates that people can spread themselves too thin doing "good things" and thereby not have enough energy and time for the "best things". The problem with this line of thinking is that a person who focuses exclusively on the "best things" only (or what they perceive to be the "best things"), becomes imbalanced. I believe, personally, that an individual whose life involves accomplishing a variety of "good things" but still manages to make time for some of the "better" and "best things", is living a healthy, whole, balanced lifestyle. And that's what's truly important.

I don't buy into the "Purpose-driven Life" concept. Anyone who's "driven" is probably headed for an imminent "crash". Word to the wise.

Otherwise - good stuff! I agree with Rob concerning the latest, greatest cell-phones, too. In fact, in our little village we have no cell-phone access at all. We are one of the last hold-out cell-phone-free enclaves on the continent! Go Gold River!

Sorry Virgil, but contrary to what you say I could not watch the video without signing up.

In any case, this dialog forcefully reminds me why I am not a member of the postmodernist, emergent choir.
