As I was ministering to someone, what I call a blocking demon took control of them. Blocking demons have very unique types of functions. They do strange things. But these strange things are diversionary mechanisms so that the exorcism cannot proceed. This demon somehow lowered the body temperature of this person - I mean their lips turned blue. They were dying. -- Bob Larson Live, March 26, 1996 |

When Would Salvation Come?

Peter writes to us in 1 Peter 1 that salvation was “ready to be revealed” (vs. 5). Traditionally it is believed that this salvation comes at the alleged “end of time” due that this salvation was to be “revealed in the last time” (vs. 5) and “at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (vs. 13). Scripture is full of parallels that illustrate when this salvation was to occur. The biblical setting of this event falls in the first century end-time framework.
As stated above, salvation would occur at “the revelation of Jesus Christ”. I don’t think it would be wrong to assume this corresponds to the “day when the Son of Man is revealed” (Luke 17:30). Are we to believe that “the revelation of Jesus Christ” and the “day when the Son of Man is revealed” are different? If not, the results are critical.
Luke 17 corresponds and parallels extensively with Matthew 24. Consider the table below to see the comparisons:
Luke 17:
Matthew 24:
23) “..Look here or look there...”
23) “...Look here...or there...”
24) “For as the lightning flashes...”
27) “For as the lightning comes...”
25) “...this generation...”
34) “...this generation...”
26) “As it was in the days of Noah...”
37) “But as the days of Noah...”
27) “They ate...drank...married...”
38) “...eating...drinking...marrying...”
30) “...Son of man is revealed...”
39) “coming of the Son of Man...”
31) “...He who is on housetop...”
17) “...him...on housetop...”
34) “...two women grinding...”
41) “...two women grinding...”
36) “...two men...in field...”
40) “...two men...in field...”
37) “...body...eagles...”
28) “...carcass...eagles...”
Undoubtedly Luke 17 and Matthew 24 speak of the same event. So if Matthew 24 speaks of the end of the Jewish age (Matt 24:3), then so does Luke 17. But we agreed that the “day when the Son of Man is revealed” (Luke 17:30) is “the revelation of Jesus Christ” of 1 Peter 1:13. Therefore the timing of 1 Peter 1 must harmonize with the timing of Luke 17 and Matthew 24. In this light, 1 Peter 1 relates perfectly with the AD 70 timeframe because the events in Matthew 24 were fulfilled in (1) the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and (2) Christ’s contemporary generation (Matt 24:34). Even John said the “Revelation of Jesus Christ” would “shortly come to pass” (Revelation 1:1) and it was “at hand” (1:3).
There are more critical results of this. If “the revelation of Jesus Christ” is tied to the AD 70 timeframe, then so is “salvation” because it was to happen at “the revelation of Jesus Christ”. This sheds much light on the rest of the “salvation” texts. In Hebrews those who were eagerly in anticipation of Him were promised he would “appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” (9:28). Is this “salvation” different from the “salvation” of 1 Peter 1? Notice that “The Day” was so close they could see it approaching (Heb 10:25). If kept in context “the Day” is the day of salvation. But the day of salvation was “ready to be revealed” (1 Peter 1:5) at “the revelation of Jesus Christ”. Doesn’t “ready to be revealed” and “as you see the Day (of salvation) approaching” express imminence?
Hebrews 9:28 also says he would appear a “second time” (i.e. Second Coming, parousia). Jesus placed his second coming within his generation (Matt 10:23; 16:27-28; 24:3, 34). So he would come again for salvation in his generation.
Our next observation is so clear and astounding. Paul states in Romans 13:11, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” The word “nearer” shows how those in Hebrews could “see the Day approaching”. He goes on to say “the day is at hand” (vs. 12). These clearly express imminence.
Back to 1 Peter 1.
10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into. – 1 Peter 1:10-12
Peter says that the salvation the prophets spoke of wasn’t for their (prophets) days but for their (Peter’s) days, thus putting it in the first century context. He even states this in Acts 3:24, “Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.”
What was so important about those days? This salvation that Peter spoke of is “of the Jews” (John 4:22). And Romans 15:8 tells us “Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs” (Rom 15:8). So Christ came to the Jews to confirm the salvation that is “of the Jews”. When? Christ came in the last days (Heb 1:1-2, Acts 2:17). Not the last days of planet earth, but the last days of the Jews (Gen 49:1, 10). Hebrews 9:26 tells us that Christ appeared in the “end of the age” and the result would be salvation (vs. 28). So if Hebrews 9:26-28 speak of salvation at the “end of the age”, isn’t this further proof that 1 Peter 1 corresponds with Matt 24 (and Luke 17)? But Matthew 24 speaks of the end of the Jewish age, so would salvation which is “of the Jews” come at the end of the Jewish age.

I am always nervous when people try to pull a verse here or a verse there and patchwork them into a doctrine. But the correlation you suggest is much more substantial. Good work!
A little clarification (although I think I know the answer): was that last sentence a question, or was it missing a word or two? |

by Bible-Touchstone on Saturday, April 12 @ 17:34:59 PDT (User Info | Send a Message) | Thanks for sharing your Biblical appeals. I think that you have asked a tough question. This is one of my favorite themes; thanks to God Salvation is come in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Some suppose that Salvation was come fully at the cross, and that soteriology has little to do with eschatology. But I agree that it is the very heart of eschatology.
By Christ' work on the Cross we are atoned, reconciled, justified, sanctified, etc. but not until Christ's triumphant Parousia at the resurrection of the dead is Salvation absolutely fulfilled.
There is a distinction between the effective function of Christ's work at the cross (by His blood) and the effective function of Christ's Parousia (His second coming/appearing). That means from this Preterist view, Christ has sealed our salvation from the foundation of the world and fulfilled the promise at His glorious return (Isaiah 62:11).
There are two major ways the Bible describes the effective function of Christ’s work at the cross. Primarily it is described as “by his blood”, and what will be pragmatically be referred to as “the doctrine of the cross”.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The BIBLE says that by Christ's blood we are:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atoned of our sins-1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5, 7:4; etc. also see Leviticus 17:11, Isaiah 53.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reconciled to God-Romans 5:10-11 (makes distinction between "were" reconciled and "shall" be saved, even though "now" already receiving the atonement); 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, Colossians 1:20-22, Ephesians 2:16; (more verb consistency shown throughout Romans 16:17; 1 Timothy 4:13, 6:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:16, 4:2-5; Titus 2:1; James 4:5; 2 Peter 1:20, 3:15-16)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Church is "purchased"- Acts 20:25-30, he offered himself (Ephesians 5:2, 5:25); an acquisition.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Redeemed us from the curse of the Law, from sin- (Romans 3:20-26; 1 Peter 1:18-19, Revelation 5:9; also Job 19:25; Galatians 3:13/Deuteronomy 21:22-23; Yet the redemptive acquisition of the body (Romans 8:17-30) does not occurs not until the Son of Man is (was) seen coming in the clouds with power and great glory (Luke 21:24-28).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christ's Blood is Symbolic of Communion with Him-John 6:53-56
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justified-1 Corinthians 6:11, Titus 3:5-11, etc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanctified-Hebrews 10:29; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Leviticus 15:30; (those sanctified have an inheritance: Acts 20:32, 26:18; {salvation} :also see Psalm 106:4-6;Ephesians 1:10-23; Colossians 3:24; 1 Peter 3:1-5; Romans 15:16-17; 1 Corinthians 6:11, 1:2; etc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Doctrine of the Cross:
1 Corinthians 17-18-the signs and wisdom of the world crucified by the cross
Ephesians 2:16-Christ reconciled both Jew and Gentile unto God into one body by the cross, having slain the enmity (of the Law contained in ordinances, not the Law itself: the "things" of Philippians 3:13)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christ's conditioning work at the Cross (the effectual work by His Blood) does all these things that antecede Salvation. But the absolute fulfillment of Salvation is not sealed until the [then still future (2 Timothy 2:18)] resurrection at the Parousia. No Bible verse explicitly proves salvation was wholly apprehended (besides by faith) before the R
