When Jim Kessler first told me about his painting, he was showing me the original, and was sharing with me with passion the theological underpinnings of the painting: the story of Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed by fire..the story Noah being saved during the Flood, and the story of the Jewish temple being again destroyed by fire in A.D. 70.

Jesus described those events and connected them together in Matthew 24, predicting the coming of His presence which would be manifested very much like Sodom and the Flood, and would be marked by the fall of the Jewish temple.
