Virgil,

Thanks for the pleasant reminder. That's $24.95 I could have spent on a copy of Russell's The Parousia. If I had only known then what I know now ... ;-)

Dear Jack & Roxella,

How do we get our $24.95 back? We've been waiting in the basement since December, 1999. Is it safe to out now? Should we stay in the basement?

Hey, Chuck said that they got a "deluge" of requests for the video. Was that deluge worldwide? Was it regional? I'd be interested to know...

The other question that I have is: did they pay for January 2000 broadcasts ahead of time (most stations demand payment prior to airing) to air their TV show?

In the Old Covenant they were to stone false prophets. Todays fundamentalist/evangelical reward them by buying their books in the millions.

I read Russell's Parousia early in 1999. I began to speak against the prevailing climate of fear as all this unfolded. I teased the folks about buying guns to protect themselves from the same neighbors they are trying to reach for Christ. I was asked to leave the church for this kind of troublemaking. It ended up causing me to have to move, so I lost a congregation, a home, a ministry, a lot of good friends...and I would do it all over again to free the world of the misguided interpretations of Van Impe and Hagee and friends. Thats a bit more than $24.95

Economics in and from religion is continual news fodder.
The Catholic pedophilia payoffs and Anglican parish property disputes are some well known items.

Just browsing from one recent opening page with a religious content section I found links demonstrating various machinations
of leaders and groups. --

"Two sets of eyes have been scanning website tributes to the late Ken Dyers. There are people grieving a good man who committed suicide last week in desperation under the weight of scurrilous allegations of sexual misconduct.

"When Worldwide Church of God leaders rejected the teachings of church founder Herbert W. Armstrong, a mass exodus occurred. A decade later, church leaders have made millions selling off church property. Bewildered ex-members and former tithe payers are finding answers in a new tell-all exposé"

Edmond, OK (PRWEB) August 2, 2007 -- Patricia Malone, 65, shakes her head as she watches disgraced Enron executives on the nightly news. Though she is not an investor, she identifies with the feelings of betrayal and loss.

Malone and her late husband, Wilbur, were some of the hundreds of thousands of members and former contributors to a church founded by 1980s televangelist Herbert W. Armstrong.

"We're all asking the same questions," she explains. "How could this happen to our church, and where did all that money go?"

Author Stephen Flurry claims to know the answers. "Had it happened in the corporate world, the CEOs and executives responsible for hijacking a corporation and robbing its investors would have been fired, if not prosecuted in a court of law," he writes. ...

===================

I had never heard of Kenja or Hillsong.
I used to watch "The World Tomorrow" and later saw some episodes of Gerald Flurry's TV program about Anglo-Israelism and the throne of David stored in the London museum ready for Christ to sit upon when he returns.
I probably have some issues of "The Plain Truth" stored somewhere in all my clutter.

I am not sure whether to laugh or cry.
The optimist in me has the idea that the meek may very well inherit the land(earth). If there is so much provision and affluence allotted(misappropriated?) to charlatans, thugs and arrogant incompetents then there should be providential plenty to go around to the favorable after the others have received their portions.
Or not.
Maybe some contentment is better achieved without.
The more one has the more one has to care for, manage and maintain.
I hear that castles are notorious money pits.
