I am currently plodding through Wright's tome on resurrection, which I find to be a learned work and a worthwhile read. Unfortunately, Wright accepts a Maccabean dating for Daniel as a given. This raises a question in my mind about his total trustworthiness. As an example of what I mean, he blithely asserts (p. 114) that Daniel 9 presents the prophet Daniel as questioning the meaning of Jeremiah's seventy years prophecy and being given the seventy "weeks" prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 as a reworking of it. This view, I firmly believe, is nonsense. Daniel fully understood Jeremiah's prophecy, and the seventy weeks prophecy is NOT a reinterpretation of it.
