Young girl? Hey! Hello! Young lady! I'm preaching, sweetheart. Sit down. Mama, this is not your house. This is the house of the Lord. Keep that child seated. We reverence the anointing here. I take what I do seriously. I don't play games with it. You sit there listening to me. Don't move out of your seat unless you're dying! And if you're dying, you can't move anyways. -- Benny Hinn, Oral Roberts University, Trinity Broadcasting Network, August 4, 1997 |

Re: A Prophetic Shift on the Horizon (Score: 1)
by Starlight on Wednesday, January 24 @ 10:40:13 PST (User Info | Send a Message) | Gary is properly highlighting just one of the myriad of problems that has arisen during the past two centuries here in America.
Gary…“Christians who are rethinking the sensationalism of contemporary apocalyptic rhetoric have come to realize that America would never have been founded if today’s rapture version of eschatology had been prevalent in the seventeenth century.”
Religious thought has indeed been hijacked by every variety of futurisms that we can imagine. It’s been across the board though; every spectrum in America has been impacted by the improper reading of scriptures. That is why we must continue to unleash the hounds of change and never retreat from a drive to provide the people with an alternative understanding of the scriptures. As long as individuals continue to misconstrue the consistent word of God from Genesis to Revelation we are going to suffer the unneeded consequences in our American Culture.
Mark Knoll in his book “The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind” has pointed out to us this cultural corruption in detail. It especially is prevalent in Religious Theologians in America at the present time. It is not unusual to enter into a discussion that delves into the Genesis debate and find that the Theologian you are attempting to interact with is completely clueless to scientific matters. Their fear of science is epidemic in America and we wonder why science minded people roll their eyes when we attempt to dialogue with them. Can you imagine a discussion between a scientist and a Theologian who adheres to a global flood position? As soon as the Theologian opened his mouth to describe the intricacies of the creation of the Grand Canyon by the flood he would have lost 90% of the science guys. Of course the Theologian would be glad to identify with the other 10% whom he would classify as the saved remnant.
You see misunderstanding both ends of the Bible is continuing to cause considerable damage to American culture. It is not just on the NT “End of Things” that causes problems.
As we continue to move into a dynamic global economy let’s hope that the hindrance toward science and technology can be lessened by a less antagonistic religious fervor that is now prevalent. This can only come about by the adoption of a proper worldview of science otherwise we will continue to create here in America our own “Dark Ages”.
Of course we can continue to hope that the “literal remnant” will be provided for by enough secular scientists that we will still enjoy a good lively hood in the global environment. In other words let’s hope the Lord will continue to provide for us in spite of our ignorance.
Let’s hope that our work here at PP will help get our act together.
Blessings
Norm

Catalysing Event (Score: 1)

Once those wars either end or grind on for 10 years or so eschatological reform will become a necessity.
but not easily ...
Ultra Dispensationalists pushed very hard for the Iraq war in much the same manner as they are doing now for Iran. The lies then are being repeated now. Most Dispy's are happy to simply reset the dates rather than realign their thinking.

Exegetical Work Where Art Thou? (Score: 1)
by valensname on Wednesday, January 24 @ 20:24:11 PST (User Info | Send a Message) | Regarding Sam's post and the follow-ups...again I request exegetical work from you billion year old Earth advocates. Surely with the time you guys are spending responding to posts etc...and your strong advocacy of a billion or million year old Earth and an undefined local Genesis flood, it is not a unreasonable request for exegetical work regarding the opening two chapters of Genesis.
I again submit A View of Creation by Ashby Camp for me regarding a thousand year old universe/earth of the type of exegetical response I am looking for. I think we all here on PP would benefit from hearing how you guys get billions of years out of the beginning of Genesis.
http://www.apologeticspress.org/rr/reprints/viewcreation.pdf
And regarding Sam on Norm's covenantal approach to Genesis 1, where is God making a covenant with the heavens and the earth? Is it written, "In the beginning God made a covenant with the heavens and the earth?"
Please deal in a reasonable exegetical depth with the early chapters of Genesis. I continue to wait patiently.
