Dispensationalism: EschatoloGreed: How Profitable is the “Evangelistic” Left Behind Video Game?

Justin from Radical Congruency writes about the Left Behind Games executives: "Both Frichner and Lyndon own 1,748,295 shares of the company. Based on the current stock price of $3.96/share, they each own roughly $6.9 million worth of stock in Left Behind Games. Holy hand grenades, that’s a lot of money for a do-gooder evangelist to have in his portfolio."

Any $6.9 million offers for rights for comic books, video games, merchandise licensing, movie, etc?

by chrisliv on Tuesday, December 12 @ 11:52:05 PST (User Info | Send a Message) | Gee,
I don't know. Are all state-incorporated clergy and authors "greedy"?
Religion is a avenue for wealth. People are easily seduced into giving generously to "The Church" or "The Family of God". And there are certainly a lot of fringe products that revolve around Religion.
I didn't read the full article, though.
But, would it really make any difference if the Left Behind Games had only garnered one hundred thousand dollars?
Is it only bad because they did so well, financially?
I mean, these guys undoubtedly really believe in a Futurist Scenario. The fictional stuff produced by Dispensationalists, like the Left Behind book series, and now a video game, is a natural outgrowth of a bad eschatology. But, no Preterist should reasonably expect there not to be a market for such products.
So, we Preterists should expect there to be a huge market for such things, as futurist apocalyptic forcasting is very pervasive. And we have no need to be jealous or to adopt communistic rationales about how "greedy" they are because of these kind of successes by them. We would do well to stick to pointing out how unbiblical, fanciful, and carnal-minded the Dispensational notions are.
Their futurist eschatology is terribly flawed. They just don't know that, yet.
Football players, recording artists, and now Dispensational fantasy products all reap crazy amounts of wealth for only a small amount of labor.
Is that wrong?
I'm inclined not to think so, because it is all-voluntary. You buy it, if you want it. It's not a State controlled monopoly, like Public Schools, where all private property is held for ransom to fund such.
Does anybody think Zondervan Publishing is wrong to have produced the NIV translation and that it has made a lot of money selling it? Sometimes I think those products are overpriced and evil for relying on the State and the FBI to protect and prosecute copyright infringement on a version of the Word of God. We could make it more ridiculous and suggest that Zondervan should also pay a royalty to the Queen of England for translating it into the English language.
Most everybody, even Futurists, understand that Dispensationalism is pretty new on the scene. The Gospel has already been preached, and only needs maintenance amounts of preaching. Virtually everybody on the planet, for numerous generations, has seen a Cross and knows it is about Christ's atonement. Sure, there are some translations still needed for remote areas.
But, fictional works and video games are not really that related to the Gospel in my mind, especially in a heavily saturated, state-incorporated church environment. So, these guy are not consciously doing anything wrong, as far as I think.
But, a lot of Clergy do make a lot of money by preaching the Gospel.
Peter would not take money when he was offered it for the power of the Gospel (the Holy Spirit) by Simon the sorcerer who had "believed" and was "baptized" by Philip. (Acts 8:9-24) And Peter is well known for his statement about not having any silver or gold, and that he would give freely The Gospel.
So, again, I personally don't fault Dispensationalists who have success for their fictional offshoot products. They really believe in their endeavors.
Maybe someday The Preterist Study Bible, when it's produced, with an accompanying DVD-ROM tutorial and video game, will also be a big financial success.
Then some communistic-minded Dispensaionalists will probably also imply that many Preterists are too "greedy".
When that day comes, I hope we will all laugh, because we will know that their criticism is not out of jealousy from our success financially, but rather because of the power and truth of our Preterist position, itself.
The Bible says to give tribute where it is due, and the Dispensationalists
