News: European Socialists eager to work with U.S. Democrats
Posted on Thursday, December 07 @ 16:04:25 PST by Virgil

Politics European Socialists promised on Thursday to work to rebuild Europe's strategic alliance with the United States now that the Democrats control Congress after last month's elections. Socialist leaders attending a meeting of the European Socialist Party pledged that with the Democrats on the rise, strong ties could be renewed with the United States after years of cool relations with Republican President George W. Bush.

Howard Dean, chairman of the national committee of the U.S. Democratic Party, is attending the two-day conference together with the leaders of leftist governments of several countries and party leaders from across Europe.

"We are not anti-American, we want the real America, your America," former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, president of the European Socialist Party, said in remarks directed at Dean.

The Democrats gained control of both houses of Congress for the first time since 1994 in the mid-term elections, reshaping the political landscape ahead of the 2008 presidential race.

"Europe needs an America that is back on track," said Portuguese Socialist Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country is hosting the meeting.

"We need, today more than ever, to reinforce and renew the strategic alliance between the United States and Europe," Socrates said. "We know that a stronger Democratic Party is key for this to happen."

Socialists, or centre-left governments, currently hold or share power in just over half of Europe.

Many European governments, not just Socialist ones, have above all been angered by Bush's war in Iraq and what has been seen as the U.S. failure to work with allies in international affairs.

They expressed hopes after last month's election for a new era of open dialogue on a more equal footing with Washington and the Bush administration during the final two years of his presidency.

Socrates said Dean's Democrats "should know that they can count on European Socialists" for support.

Sure, we can count on them now after they failed to do the morally right thing and assist us in Iraq. I place the failure of Iraq squarely on the shoulders of Europe and all the other dogooder nations. Bush bit off more than he could chew in Iraq and his mistake was thinking he could go it alone. If the European nations had supplied the manpower to help stabilize Iraq we might not have the fiasco there that we have now. But they chose to withhold assistance when it was in their best interest to assist. They wanted a Bush failure in Iraq more than they wanted Iraq to succeed. But they do not realize that their failure to assist may have allowed the destabilization of the Middle East to intensify, and unfortunately for Europe it will have far worse implications for them in the near term than for us.

I get weary thinking about how Europe doesn’t have to spend any hard earned money on sustaining reasonable armies, navies and air forces due to our subsidizing their protection.
We should consider anew the pull back of our protective forces from that arena and let these countries pony up for their own defense. They are the ones closest to the Middle East; let them deal with their own back yard problems especially monetarily.

Just another reason for America to make a technological push to develop alternative fuels from products such as biomass and reinvigorate our agricultural base by infusing that money here at home instead of overseas in that rats nest.
Sorry if I’m a little cynical on this point but enough is enough.

It humors me how often those Christians who vote for Democrats say things like "they are not socialists." And yet, not only is one of the "independents" in the Senate an avowed Socialist, but he votes in line with the Democrat leadership EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Now, what does that tell you? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???

And now we see the Socialists of Europe, the descendents of Adolph Hitler (the National Socialist Party) looking forward to the takeover of our gov't by the Democrats. Is anyone else following this logic...

As I have stated before: America was built on Free Markets. Democrats are Socialists, who don't believe in Free Markets. Do I need to spell it out for anyone?
