"The Holy Ghost is upon me...The day is coming when those that attack us will drop dead. You say, 'What did you say?' I speak this under the anointing of the Spirit. Can I tell you something? Don't touch God's servants; it's deadly...Woe to you that touch God's servants. You're going to pay. 'And the day will come," the Lord said that to me. He said, "The day will come when I will punish instantly. Woe to those that touch my chosen.' They will fear us. Hear this: today they mock us; tomorrow they will fear us." -- Benny Hinn |

News: Ted Haggard Resigns Amid Allegations of Gay Affair

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals on Thursday after being accused of paying a man for sex in monthly trysts over the past three years. Haggard — an outspoken opponent of the drive for gay marriage — also stepped down as senior pastor at his 14,000-member New Life Church pending an investigation by a church panel, saying he could "not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations."
"I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity," Haggard said in a written statement. "I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance."
Haggard, a married father of five, denied the allegations in an interview with KUSA-TV late Wednesday: "Never had a gay relationship with anybody, and I'm steady with my wife, I'm faithful to my wife."
The allegations came as voters in Colorado and seven other states prepare to decide ban-gay-marriage amendments next Tuesday. Besides the proposed ban on the Colorado ballot, a separate measure would establish the legality of domestic partnerships providing same-sex couples with many of the rights of married couples.
Mike Jones, 49, of Denver told the AP he decided to go public with his allegations because of the political fight.
"I just want people to step back and take a look and say, 'Look, we're all sinners, we all have faults, but if two people want to get married, just let them, and let them have a happy life,"' said Jones, who added that he isn't actively working for any political group.
Jones, who said he is gay, said he was also upset when he discovered Haggard and the New Life Church had publicly opposed same-sex marriage.
"It made me angry that here's someone preaching about gay marriage and going behind the scenes having gay sex," Jones said.
Jones, whose allegations were first aired on KHOW-AM radio in Denver, claimed Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month over three years. He said he advertised himself as an escort on the Internet and was contacted by a man who called himself Art.
Jones said he later saw the man on television identified as Haggard. He said he last had sex with Haggard in August and did not warn him before making his allegations public this week.
Jones said he has voice mails from Haggard as well as an envelope he said Haggard used to mail him cash. He declined to make any of it available to the AP.
"There's some stuff on there (the voice mails) that's pretty damning," he said.
Haggard, a 1978 graduate of Oral Roberts University, was appointed president of the association in March 2003 and has been called one of the most influential evangelical Christians in the nation. He has participated in conservative Christian leaders' conference calls with White House staffers and lobbied members of Congress last year on U.S. Supreme Court appointees after Sandra Day O'Connor announced her retirement.
Richard Cizik, vice president for government affairs for the evangelicals' association, expressed shock.
"Is this something I can imagine of Ted Haggard? No," he said.
Carolyn Haggard, spokeswoman for the New Life Church and the pastor's niece, said a four-member church panel will investigate the allegations.
The board is comprised of the Rev. Larry Stockstill in Baker, La., the Rev. Mark Cowart of Colorado Springs, the Rev. Tim Ralph of Larkspur and the Rev. Michael Ware of Westminster. The board has the authority of to discipline Haggard, including removing him from ministry work.
"This is really routine when any sort of situation like this arises, so we're prepared," Carolyn Haggard said. "The church is going to continue to serve and be welcoming to our community. That's a priority."

by Parker on Thursday, November 02 @ 19:49:10 PST (User Info | Send a Message) | I'm inclined to disbelieve every word of this pre-election bombshell. The Democrats have orchestrated a massive campaign to stop Evangelical voters from coming out to vote, and this report smacks of more dirty political tricks.
The timing is perfect, if this is a mere dirty trick: Make an allegation just days before the election that overwhelms and disheartens evangelicals--that way there won't be enough time for this man to vindicate himself. In addition, there won't be enough time for the trick to backfire on the Democrats--no one will care about this headline after the election is over. There is only enough time for evangelicals to feel depressed that one of their top leaders may have fallen in a big way. And once they find out it was all a hoax (if it is a hoax), it's too late--they failed to go out and vote because they felt disgusted.
If it is the case that Mr. Haggard is innocent, his accuser should be put in jail for many years. This could be the worst, most evil slander yet. But, as with all accusations, we have no way of knowing the truth for sure until time passes and the confusion is cleared up.
My hope is that this stuff will actually cause MORE Evangelicals to get out and vote against their local democratic candidate. |

My first impression is that Mr. Haggard may very well have committed homosexual acts with his accuser.
Though, the fact that he stepped-down was a policy and procedure that was already in place, which he had no control over and was compelled to follow.
I say the accuser on a brief televised spot, and he seems very credible, especially since he mentions the pattern occuring over a three year span. And the accuser doesn't look like an opportunistic drifter trying to elicit money, as was the man who accused Paul Crouch of the same thing, for which there may have been some real basis.
No, this obviously homosexual accuser of Mr. Haggard's is claiming a moral reason for exposing Mr. Haggard, saying that Mr. Haggard is being terribly hypocritical in his duality.
So, that to me seems a quite different motivation than a political "hit".
I mean, this guy seems to be "outting" Haggard for moral reasons. Of course, not Christian morals, but morals nonetheless.
I suppose there could be a hush-up agreement, as was the case with Paul Crouch, which will prevent most of us from ever knowing the full truth of the matter.
We'll see.
Peace to you all,

I can say that the Evangelical Charismatic model of ministry is utterly faulty. Those who rise to the top in these organisations are usually gregariuos types given to moral excess. There is little accountability and many opportunities for moral failure present themselves. This becomes far worse when a church dares to align itself with a political party. The church and its leaders should realise that the Liberal/Conservative Democrat/Republican divide is meaningless. It is nothing more than the Hegelian Dialectic in operation and is intended as a distraction for the weak minded.
It is worth reading the comments of David Kou about his book: "Tempting Faith". Kou is a former insider who states the mind numbingly obvious. His position is that Evangelicals have just been used and are disdained by the administration.
The church has a role of conscience to the world. A conscience that is partisan or tainted is worthless.

As long as man-made mega-churches exist, there will be elevation of the "clergy", and no matter how benign the intent, eventually corruption comes to the top. The vast sums of money involved insure this, not to mention the lure of the spotlight, and the deceit of power.
I hope Ted Haggard is innocent. If it turns out he is not, well, this is not a "new thing", after all. |

A friend of mine is a member there, and she mentioned that while it's disheartening and shocking, the church is being brought closer together through the whole thing in love and grace. Members were praying at the World Prayer Center all day Friday and Saturday, and the board of directors are offering him help and support instead of just kicking him out of his position and letting whatever happen, happen.
She also mentioned that the most difficult part is that the city of Colorado Springs is almost doing a victory dance about the whole situation and rubbing it in the church's face, as though they were waiting for something like this to happen all along. And I think that the best thing we can do as Christians is to remember how closely tied we are to this man, to his family, and to his church, no matter where we sit in this world, and to offer our own love and support through prayer for reconciliation and strength for all those involved.. and most importantly, that the glory of our Lord will be evident through the scrutiny and struggle. I really hope this pastor will come through in humility and vulnerability and that that will be remembered over any scandal that has taken place. |
