Preterism: Interest in the Preterist Position
Posted on Wednesday, May 31 @ 20:49:21 PDT by Virgil

Mailbag TexBob submitted: "I became a Christian in 1970 just prior to turning 16. I was not raised in a Christian home and only attended church a couple of times up to that point in my life. The fellow who led me to the Lord brought me to a Plymouth Brethren church where I remained for 17 years. The first Bible that this individual gave to me was a Scoffield Study Bible.

In the last year I became aware of Zionism and the influence of International Banking and it's ill effects on our world situation. I just finished reading a book by Stephen Sizemore on, Christian Zionism.

This has caused me to question everything I've thought about Israel in modern times. I has also caused me to question what I've been taught about prophecy. I've read the basic information about preterism at the site, and have found it interesting.

Is there a particular book that addresses this view indepthly?"

I have not viewed it but I'd suggest you look at this dvd series published by Presence Ministries on Christian Zionists: on the Road to Armageddon. It may be something you are interested in.

I can recommend a website that really helped me out at the beginning of my journey.

www.preterism.us

I read through all of the articles on the subject and recommend the same. It's a good place to start. But if you are like me and you just like the feel of a book in your hands, I understand that, "Before Jerusalem Fell" by Kenneth Gentry is a good place to start.

You might also like this lesson that he taught.

And please don't hesitate to ask us any questions.

You already got a couple of replies to your questions - there are also many free books available online for download. You can go into our Encyclopedia sections for all kinds of resources and also take a look at Todd's website at http://preteristarchive.com for a large amount of information on any topic you would imagine.

Dear TexBob,

God bless you, Brother. I also spent much time among Christians who were taught the views of Dr. Schofield, and I began to question their prophetic views. A little book by David Chilton on 'The Great Tribulation' was very helpful to me. Thank you for sharing your testimony. Of course, whether or not we fully agree with the prophetic views of those who cared enough about us to tell us of Jesus Christ, it remains true that we treasure them. Your friend who took you to church, and the folks who gave you a Schofield Bible mean very much to you, I am sure. So, even if you come to agree with us preterists, it won't ever change that!
Amen?

As a retired professor whose specialty for the last twenty years of my career was international finance, my warning alarms go off whenever I run across someone on this site who expresses sentiments like becoming "aware of Zionism and the influence of International Banking." For what it is worth, I am strongly of the opinion that the supposedly nefarious influence of some kind of Zionist conspiracy linked to high finance is a myth. I also believe that the dangers of Christian Zionism tend to be greatly exaggerated here.

I suggest that you might take a look at Ed Lasky's interview with David Brog ("Evangelicals and Israel) posted on Americanthinker.com on May 30. It's somewhat kinder to Jerry Falwell & co. than I would be, but it may serve to counterbalance somewhat the stuff you've been reading.

There is one book that is *very comprehensive* concerning Covenant Eschatology (Preterism) that I would highly recommend. It's by Max King called "The Cross and the Parousia of Christ". This thing covers, I must say ,just about everything concerning the Preterist perspective. By far my favorite book out there bar none dealing with eschatology. You can get it here - http://www.presence.tv/cms/books4.php

Some other greats books that have helped me along the way are:

1) "Paradise Restored" by David Chilton - Although Dave wrote this when he was still a Partial Preterist, it's an excellent book filled with a lot of great facts and information. You just have to remember that the few events that he placed in our future actually took place back in AD70. Of course before he died he became a full preterest. It's a shame too, because I can't even imagine the great books Preterism would have been treated to today if he were still alive.

He also wrote a great commentary (again while a partial preterist) on the Book of Revelation called "The Days of Vengeance", which is actually being placed back into print by Gary DeMar at www.AmericanVision.org for $39.95. You can also get a new *free* PDF version of it here - http://www.preteristarchive.com

Best commentary on Revelation in print today, although Kurt Simmons' commentary "The Consummation of the Ages" is a close second (which is from a Full Preterist perspective). See it here - http://www.preteristcentral.com

2) Max King's introduction to Preterism "The Spirit of Prophecy" is an excellent book to get started with too.

3) Here are a bunch a learning activities (lessons) that force you to walk through many of the truths of Preterism through Bible Study. I love these lessons and have used many of them to teach classes. http://christeternalchristianchurch.com/learninglist.htm

4) Of course for liberality hundreds of articles and papers on Preterism go here - http://www.preteristarchive.com

5) Of course no list would be complete without James Stuart Russell's book "The Parousia". The one can be view for free online too here - http://www.preteristarchive.com/Books/russell.html

Although personally I need the hard copy when reading anything beyond 3 or 4 pages.

There many other great authors out there. I'm sure many here will point them out to you in their reply so I'll stop here.

Rich

Yeah,

I'll also say that any most ideas about global Zionist conspiracies are pretty zany.

Reprints of old Philip Mauro books can be found on eBay cheaply. His books, The Hope Of Israel: What Is It, and, The Gospel Of The Kingdom: An Examination Of Modern Dispensationalism, are both as crystal clear and relevent today as they they were when they were written, in the 1920's.

Are there wealthly families in global finance? Sure. Are there racist ideas promoted within Zionism, Judaism, and ancient Kabbalah? Sure. Are there powerful Jewish lobby efforts in Wash DC? Sure.

But, interestingly, a recent article by Uri Avnery, that great Israeli peace activist, former Knesset member, and Israeli Independence War veteran, mentions how Jewish Zionism was being promoted by British sources well before Theodor Herzl, the Father of Modern Zionism, picked up the cause.

Modern Zionism was never a Jewish conspiracy, nor a conspiracy per se, except that it may have been promoted at the earliest time by British Israelism adherents. So, the Balflour Declaration, the Scofield Reference Bible, release of the British Mandate, plus the efforts of Jewish Zionists for a homeland all worked to bring about the Israeli State.

Of course, most Jews around the globe are too smart to live in such a hostile, racist environment, in which the homes of indigenous Palestinians have been bulldozed, and various other efforts are underway to displace the 19% of the original non-Jewish Israelis, too: i.e., Arab Israelis can't purchase property or live in a Jewish neighborhood, Jews can't marry and then live with a Palestinian spouse in the Jewish State.

No, I believe there are still more Jews in Brooklyn, NY, than the whole Israeli State, even though, now, Jews-only are considered for immigration and citizenship, based on ethnicity/bloodline.

So, again, if there is some Zionist conspiracy, it's not widely accepted by most Jews. And, as Preterists, we know that the Old Covenant and animal sacrifices will not ever be respected by God, and would be an affront to the shed blood and Atonement provided by the Son of God. Of course, that doesn't mean that God will necessarily prevent certain extremist Jews from trying to destroy the Dome of the Rock mosque, which has stood over the old Temple site since 685 AD, so they can attempt to build a Third Temple. But, that would have nothing to do with long-ago fulfilled Bible prophecy, although it may cause a Middle Eastern war that could be interpreted as an Armaggedon, of sorts, since Tel Aviv has a monopoly on a cache of over 200 "secret" nuclear weapons in the region, and has made it clear that it will use everything in its power to exercise it self determination.

Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace is a credo of The Legion of the Damned.

Peace to you,
C. Livingstone
