Funny Stuff
The Lord also tells me to tell you in the mid-90's, about '94, '95, no later than that, God will destroy the homosexual community of America. [Round of applause] But He will not destroy it with what many minds have thought Him to be. He will destroy it with fire. And many will turn and be saved, and many will rebel and be destroyed.

News: Christian Zionism: Terror In Jesus' Name
Posted on Wednesday, December 07 @ 11:11:21 PST by John

Society By Yoginder Sikand, Countercurrents.org
Represented by literally hundreds of small denominations and churches today, particularly in America, Christian Zionism is today a formidable force and a major actor in global politics. Christian Zionism comes in various shades, but the core of its message is total, unflinching support to the state of Israel and the Zionist imperialist project. Christian Zionists today exercise an enormous clout in the Bush administration. Bush, too, may himself be characterised in some sense as a Christian Zionist, for his policies in the Middle East and elsewhere clearly reflect or tally with the Christian Zionist agenda.

War, conquest and imperialist domination, based on a fanatic insistence on the absolute truth of Christianity and the racial superiority of the Jews lie at the very heart of Christian Zionism. Christian Zionists believe that the Jews are God's 'Chosen People' and that God has given the Jews the absolute right to complete control over not just Palestine but, indeed, a vast stretch of territory, extending from present-day Egypt to Iraq, the so-called 'Greater Israel'. God, they claim, has selected the Jews above all other people. Hence, they insist, those who oppose the imperialist project of the advocates of 'Greater Israel' or the Zionist occupation of Palestine are 'God's enemies', deserving to be crushed by every available means, including outright war and decimation.

Advocating Israel does not mean, however, that Christian Zionists accept Judaism as a legitimate means of salvation after Jesus. Nor does it translate into genuine love for the Jews, a departure from the traditional teachings of the Church that, for centuries, viewed Jews as 'Christ-killers'. Since Christian Zionists believe that Christianity is the only religion acceptable to God, and that, as the Bible claims, salvation is possible only through Jesus, they insist that Jews cannot be 'saved' unless they convert to Christianity. Yet, because Christian Zionists are dogged defenders of the state of Israel and are fiercely anti-Arab and anti-Muslim, they have been able to establish a close nexus with right-wing Jewish groups and with the Israeli state and are today an integral part of the American-Israeli axis.

Christian Zionism is a call for global war. The belief that Christianity is the sole truth, that all other faiths are 'Satanic' or 'false', that the Jews must all gather in Palestine to fulfil so-called Biblical prophecies, and that a grand global war will soon erupt leading to the massacre of hundreds of millions and heralding the 'second coming' of Jesus, who will establish his Christian kingdom extending till the four corners of the world, clearly indicate the hate-driven, global expansionist project of Christian Zionism.

John Hagee is a prime example of a Christian Zionist zealot. He is the founder and pastor of the Cornerstone Church, in Texas, USA, which claims some 16,000 members. As with numerous other similar American Christian fundamentalist preachers, his church is richly endowed and media savvy. Hagee is the president of the 'Global Evangelism' media company that broadcasts his daily programmes on television and radio throughout the USA and around the world. He is the author of numerous books on Christian Zionism, some of which have been reprinted by Christian fundamentalist publishers abroad as well.

Yeah,

The article is a fair characterization of the current mindset of many of those in state-incorporated Dispensational and Christian Zionist type organizations and "churches".

It will be nice when mainstream writers of articles like these become aware of the Preterist position, and will hopefully mention how it is a sane alternative to the current nonsense which seems to have captivated many 501 (c) 3 groups, like Hagee's.

Peace to you all,
C. Livingstone

The fact that Christianity is the only religion acceptable to God is certainly not unique to Christian Zionism (whatever the heck that is). The Bible actually does claim that Salvation is only possible through Jesus.

I think the author is this article opposes Christianity in general. His rant against Christian Zionism is a red herring.

Thanks for posting this piece. It sure woke me up and got my adrenalin flowing. I invite all visitors to this site to go to countercurrents.com if they have not previously done so. If you are a committed--or should I say "determined"?--leftist who believes that the war in Iraq is all about oil and Bush's mad desire to force peaceloving Middle Easterners into the orbit of American capitalism, you will find the site full of articles that confirm your worst fears. If you are a conservative, as I am, you may find yourself wondering how people who write this stuff can possibly be so deluded as to think they form an intellectual elite.

I do regard some dispies as dangerous. Even if the Rev. Hagee is the crazy zealot portrayed by Yoginder Sikand, which I doubt, he is surely a much smaller danger to the world than the Islamic militants whom Sikand chooses to ignore. Yes, there are dispies who want to hasten the Armageddon in Israel that will, they believe, bring in all the "good stuff" they associate with the End Times. That they have the ear of George Bush I very much doubt. Bush may be a Christian, but contrary to a widely held opinion the left, he is no fool. On the other hand, militant Islam (Is there really any other kind among those who take the religion seriously?) is very much at war with this nation whether we recognize that fact or not. And militant Islam is a religion whose "holy" scriptures explicitly advocate world conquest by force. That is something that I doubt that even the Rev. Hagee advocates.

Some Dispy's would be cool with a person who professed Christianity who claimed that God spoke to them. By and large, Preterists, even those with Charismatic leanings, would be a bit uncomfortable with direct Divine leadings.

I wonder about this:

:begin

Nabil Shaath says: “President Bush said to all of us: ‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, “George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.” And I did, and then God would tell me, “George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …” And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, “Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.” And by God I’m gonna do it.’”

:end

So did he or didn't he?

It's all about the Kingdom... (Score: 1)

A 30,000 feet analysis:

A Christian Zionist believes that the Kingdom is not yet here, and will be physically be established with literal, physical Jersusalem as the Holy City - probably in our generation.

- It is inferred that Jesus failed because He COULD NOT bring His Kingdom due to Jewish unbelief. (is this not blasphemy?)

- It is inferred that today's Jewish people, being a special people of priests and chiefs, will administer the Kingdom to the other peoples of the world.

- It is inferred that today's Jewish people wield enough power to divert the schemes of the Creator of the Universe, and who are we (the "gentiles") to interfere with the establishment of this literal, physical Kingdom?

This should scare the bijabbers out of any sane, rational, sober person. It certainly does me.

The more I think about it, the more I believe a sifting of "judeo-christians" back into Christianity must soon occur. A system of lies - built on lies - can only be sustained so long before it fails.

I propose a prescription to reverse this problem:

- The leaders and teachers in our faith must deal with the meaning and applications of the words "Israelite", "Jew" and "Gentile."

- The leaders and teachers in our faith need to deal with the biblical and historical evidences regarding divorce/remmarriage of God and the houses of Israel.

- The leaders and teachers need to deal with the Israel Identity issue. Abandoning good exegesis in favor of "spiritualizing" Israel will not give them traction they need.

- The leaders and teachers in our faith need to deal with the time statements given by the prophets ("believest thou the prophets? Acts 26:27 ")

It's time to be "confrontational." Glad to see this article in Countercurrents.org - if, for no other reason, than to spur our leaders and teachers to re-examine themeselves and their responsibilities.

For His Kingdom,
-Brad
