News: The Greek Orthodox Church: No land for Jews

The man enthroned last week as Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem signed a secret document obliging him to nullify the recent sale to Jewish groups of land comprising much of a key entrance to Jerusalem's Old City, and has allegedly made statements against Jews living in certain parts of Jerusalem, WorldNetDaily has learned.
The newly installed Greek Orthodox leader, Theofilos III, was crowned in a ceremony Tuesday at Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre in spite of objections by Israel, which is currently debating whether to recognize him as the official Jerusalem Patriarch – the religious leader of 100,000 Christians in the Holy Land.
Theofilos is attempting to succeed current patriarch Irineos, who church officials tried to oust in May by holding new patriarchal elections amid allegations Irineos leased church land in Jerusalem to Jewish groups. The leases, signed last year for a period of 98 years, include two hotels that comprise a large section of the Jaffa Gate, the principal entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem.

by bigmike on Sunday, November 27 @ 12:31:42 PST (User Info | Send a Message) | Virgil, great article but a little "blown out of proportion". I live here and have actually stayed at the New Imperial; and usually photograph in the old city on weekends. Anyway, the article should read "Slick Cons get caught with their hands in the cookie jar". Neither the Petra nor the New Imperial (it was new in the 1890's) is anything to write home about; in the States these would have been torn down years ago. Having said that, the ex-Pat betrayed a trust, either by negligence or greed, that he swore to protect. Now the ownership of these two properties, although financially lucrative, bares no restriction on any one coming or going from the old city. In fact, Jaffa Gate (the entry in question) I seldom use because it is inconvenient to West Jerusalem; were the vast majority of Jerusalem Jews are living!
Ok, now before anyone tags me as one thing or the other, let’s set the record straight. First of all, I’m not religious! Second, most Jews aren’t Jews! You can call them Talmudist if you like but there is very little Hebrew blood amongst them. Third, when ever you read an article that seems to be a little “pro this” or “pro that”, it probably is.
Come on people, this is the twenty-first century! Put your thinking caps on.
