Atheist Attacks Futurist Over Time Statements
Posted on Wednesday, November 09 @ 17:20:17 PST by Randall East

Dispensationalism On several occasions I have heard it mentioned that preterism answers many of the attacks on Christians from Atheists. This recording of Gene Cook's radio show "The Atheist Hour" has an Atheist attacking Christianity over time statements.

The portion you'll want to listen is about half-way through the show. This link was given to me by Alexander Rodriquez.

Never has an atheist come so close to being my hero.

While I can appreciate Mr. Cook's efforts, he did not answer the questions convincingly.

To paraphrase the I John 2:18 discussion...

James: So the last hour can mean 2000 years?

Mr. Cook: Yes.

James: So how can the last hour mean 2000 years?

Mr. Cook: Let's go to Acts 1.

Me: Huh?

Also, Mr. Cook says Rev. 1:1-3 means what it says and is in reference to the destruction of Jerusalem. However, that same language in I John, the same author, is somehow ambiguous since it supposedly refers to the "Second Coming." No wonder James wasn't convinced. *Sigh* :(

Cook's Arbitrary Dividing Of Matt 24 Is Impossible (Score: 1)

Notice: Luke 17 puts the "days of Noah" at the same
time as the "houstop" event.

Luke 17
26"And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it
will be also in the days of the Son of Man:27they were
eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they
were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah
entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them
all.31"On that day, the one who is on the housetop and
whose goods are in the house must not go down to take
them out; and likewise the one who is in the field
must not turn back.

Notice: "Housetop" event in Mathhew 24 happens in
verse 7 which all Partial Preterists say is past.

Therefore: The verses about the "days of Noah" are
also in the past.

Matthew 24
7"Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get
the things out that are in his house.
37"For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like
the days of Noah.38"For as in those days before the
flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered
the ark,

Therefore: Matthew 24 can not be divided.
Therefore: Heaven and earth passed away.

Matthew 24
34"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass
away until all these things take place.35"Heaven and
earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

Therefore: The great white throne judgment is past.

Revelation 20
11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon
it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away,
and no place was found for them.
