You have probably noticed by now that strange things are happening on the main page of Planet Preterist. Stories which used to remain on the main page until they naturally were “bumped” off by newer ones now disappear well before they normally would. What is going on? Who is doing this? Why is this happening? Reasonable questions all.
Think back a few months and remember how things used to be on Planet Preterist. Someone writes a very thought provoking article and it gets hundreds of reads and tons of comments. The discussion continues for many days. Unfortunately, in the meantime many other stories get posted until eventually the story which was generating lively discussion gets “bumped” off of the main page by all of these newer stories. When this happens the discussion dies.
You see the administrators of Planet Preterist face a bit of a challenge. We want to post lots of fresh content, yet we do not want some stories to get “bumped” off of the main page by the new content. This is especially true for Planet Preterist exclusives, or those articles written by our columnists which are frequently found only here at Planet Preterist (though some authors post their articles on other sites as well). These pieces represent the only original content that we create, and so it is especially important to us to keep them visible.
To solve this problem, I have written a computer program which runs periodically and moves stories off of the home page, based upon certain criteria. The stories are not removed from Planet Preterist altogether, but merely from the home page. They are still available in the “Old Articles” block to the right. Now I cannot disclose what the selection criteria are as this would certainly lead to abuse and undermine the very reason for the existence of this process. I can tell you, however, that the content of the story is irrelevant to it. All articles, except Planet Preterist exclusives, will eventually be “bumped” off of the main page by this computer program… be they about Calvinism, Arminianism, Universalism, Open Theism, Annihilationism, Preterism, Futurism, or whatever!
