Now, a personal note. I have been a “preterist” for over 14 years now. In my last year of college I read Chilton and from that Russell. Thanks to Walt Hibbard at the time, I came across Max King. That was around 1991, 1992. Since then, I have gotten to know most of the “old school” preterists such as Max, William Bell, Terry Hall, Dave Curtis, Birks, Stevens, Anderson and Preston. I consider each of these men (and the ones I have not mentioned) to be “elders” in my life. I spar with them of course, but, hey, that’s life. These men have taken directions in their ministries that they believe God has brought them to take. More power to them, and more like them! The more the merrier I say! But, except for a couple, I have seen a lack in one particular area of concern: Evangelical scholarship (as set by the standards of rigid academic excellence) and how it so often confirms our positions.

At last years conferences many read my book, Misplaced Hope and complained, in kindness of course, that it was “too technical” and “too heady.” Well, that’s exactly what I aimed for. Charles Hill, associate professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, wrote that my book “attacks the problem of the early church in a much more thoroughgoing way than I have seen” (When Shall These Things Be? P&R Publishing, 2003, 110). Jay E. Adams and Thomas Ice have each noticed the methodology I used. In short, it will not do to say “no creed but Christ” (which is a creed itself). When one argues the basics of cardiology, one does not say “no textbooks, but scalpels!”

I am interested in how God through Providence has guided his Wife through the ages. After all, it was promised by Paul that God would display his glory “through the church to all generations” not only “in this age, but in the ages to come.” Did Athanasius contribute to this? Did Augustine manifest this in writings? Did Erasmus? Arminius? Calvin? Ed Stevens? Max King? Kurt Simmons? Virgil Vaduva? We are all “members” and one “member” cannot say to another “I have no need of thee.” Thus, Regnum Christi Ministries is proud to offer current Evangelical (and in many ways, draw from liberal sources as well) insights into issues surrounding us today. We do so with the assumption that the Blessed Hope is now the Fulfilled Blessed Hope of Israel, and that the kingdom of God steadily “increases” and “expands the tent peg” in the world. This increase is done through many, many actions: hospitality, love, caring, giving, sharing, and the like. But, it is, as Paul said, all done through the knowledge of the Son. Thus, our motto is simple: bringing healing to the nations through the knowledge of the Gospel. The more people “know” about the kingdom, the more the kingdom “expands” one soul at a time. Therefore, we welcome you to join with us and pray for us. We want to be a leader in dealing with many of the areas within “preterism” and are seeking to have such a format (magazine) that welcomes articles from all quarters (for critical review). I see us as one big family, and I in my immediate family, we fought like cats and dogs, but then came together at the table and ate and drank. Catch that vision!
