Undoubtedly this article will upset some people, but it would not be the first time our incisive reporting has upset someone. For those unfamiliar with the concept, a Magic Quadrant is often used in the corporate world to visually illustrate the standings of various companies and their services as related to their industry and to each other. Year 2005 is the first year when someone created a Magic Quadrant for Preterism.
First, it is likely that several groups and organizations will not appear on this year’s Magic Quadrant. If your name was left off we apologize; it was not intentional. We simply tried to analyze the largest names in Preterism. There are literally hundreds of personal websites and organizations dealing with various aspects of Preterism and it is not our intent to analyze all of them. Furthermore, since this is the first year we do this, we chose a more simplistic way to approach the analysis looking at the general aspects of the group or organizations. Perhaps in the future we will use a different methodology as the analysis becomes more complex.
The methodology for generating the Quadrant consists of assigning a number between one and ten to each organization according to its ability to execute and its completeness of vision. There are four distinct categories of classification: Niche Players, Newcomers, Visionaries and Leaders. There is no “good or bad” or “right or wrong” place to be on the Magic Quadrant, although it could be visually interpreted as being so. We tried to be fair as possible and accurate in the analysis. Also, the numbers assigned to each entity is not indicative of "bad" or "good" - it is simply used to geographically place the entity on the Quadrant. A higher number does not mean "better" nor does a lower number mean "worse." Any comments or suggestions are greatly encouraged.
Presence International
Presence has come a long way since its humble Ohio roots. The ministry has moved from Warren, Ohio to Colorado Springs. It has several full-time employees and it has agressively pushed for erasing the lines between preterism and "the rest of the world." Without a question, Presence is a leader in the preterism movement in 2005. Presence scored a little over six points on execution and six points on vision. The new website can be confusing to navigate and locate content; however the vision of the ministry and the clear defined goals put Presence in a coveted upper-right Quadrant spot. Presence can be found at http://www.presence.tv
American Vision
Although Gary DeMar does not profess to be a full-preterist, we decided to include his ministry in this chart, mostly because of his nonjudgmental attitude and willingness to participate in many dialogues with other preterists and tremendous ability to clearly define his vision for a societal improvement. The dynamic website helped American Vision score just over five points on execution and six points on vision. American Vision is at http://www.americanvision.org
Prophecy Reformation Institute
Headed by John Noe, the Prophecy Reformation Institute has been very successful in using press relations to promote the message of Preterism. John Noe has been a guest on several national television and radio shows and has maintained a strong public presence. The website, while not as dynamic contains much useful material and information. PRI scored almost five points on both vision and execution. The Prophecy Reformation Institute is online at http://www.prophecyrefi.org
The Preterist Archive
Maintained by Todd Dennis, the Preterist Archive is a bottomless source of preterist materials and articles. The quantity of information is not lacking, however Todd’s vision for the website is not clear and navigation could be cumbersome. This put Preterist Archive at almost five point in execution and four points on completeness of vision. The Preterist Archive is at http://www.preteristarchive.com
Eschatology.org
Maintained by Don Preston, the website contains articles on eschatological topics. Easy navigation helps with finding materials quickly, however the quantity of materials is limited and the website content is stale. This put eschatology.org at four points in vision and four points in ability to execute. http://www.eschatology.org
Lighthouse World Ministries
Lighthouse Productions is an organization run by John Anderson. With an almost daily radio show and video productions facilities, the outreach potential is great; however the quality of the broadcast and video productions could be greatly improved. Lighthouse WM remains a niche player and scores over four points on execution and four on vision. LWM is online at http://www.lighthouseproductionsllc.com
International Preterist Association
Run by Ed Stevens for a many years, IPA offers a wide number of books and tape materials. Unfortunately, the ministry offers no clearly defined vision and its ability to execute is not clear because of the lack of public presence and exposure, so it remains a niche player catering to a very specific group of individuals. The website was improved tremendously in the past year, adding a secure online ordering option. IPA scored three points on both vision and execution. IPA is online at http://www.preterist.org
Planet Preterist
Planet Preterist is a website dedicated to online interaction between preterists. Columnists write regular articles on Planet Preterist and the bookstore contains an good list of books and other materials. Planet Preterist execution is of quality; it scored seven points on execution but scored almost five points in completeness of vision. PlanetPreterist is online at http://planetpreterist.com
