God's on the outside looking in. He doesn't have any legal entrée into the earth. The thing don't belong to Him...Well, if God's running things He's doing a lousy job of it.' He hadn't been running 'em...

Dispensationalism: Has Bible Prophecy Already Been Fulfilled?
Posted on Thursday, March 18 @ 06:59:46 PST by John

Dispensationalism by Thomas Ice
...The preterist understanding greatly affects events, personalities, and chronologies. If preterism is true, (it is not) then what a different view of the past and future there would be than what we have been led to believe up to this point.. If it is true, then what a vastly different view of Christianity it would produce. The following list includes many of the strange beliefs that preterism yields...

"The Great Tribulation "took place in the Fall of Israel. It will not be repeated and thus is not a future event.""

Ice considers this a strange idea. I think the far stranger idea is that God's wrath remains on a redeemed world inspite of the cross. What did Christ accomplish there, anyway?? Apparently for Ice, not much.

Ice "Preterists believe that they are compelled to take such a view because Matthew 24:34 and its parallel passages say that "this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." This means it had to take place in the first century, they argue. Revelation, they advocate, says something similar in the passages that say Christ is coming "quickly" or that His return is "at hand." Having settled in their mind that these prophecies had to take place in the first century..."

After quoting Scripture that places the events in the first century, how does he say, "Having settled in their mind that these prophecies had to take place in the first century"?? LOL

I pray the eyes of his mind and the understanding of his heart would be opened to our Lord's truth and closed against man's made-up ideas.

"Preterists believe that Matthew 16:28 and parallel passages (Mk. 9:1; Lk. 9:27) are a prediction of the destruction of Jerusalem accomplished through the Roman army in a.d. 70. I believe that Matthew 16:28 was fulfilled by events that took place on the Mount of Transfiguration".

I have always liked Russell's comment on Matt 16:27-28. "To suppose that it refers merely to the glorious manefistation of Jesus on the mount of transfiguration, though a hypothesis which has great names to support it, is so palpably inadequate as an interpretation that is scarcely requires refutation".

To divide verse 27 from verse 28 as Ice does here is a classic example of the exegetical gymnastics needed to continue with a futurist interpretive scheme.

Well, there is nothing much new in Ice,s comments that he didn't already state in his book ( END TIME CONTROVERSY). I am not sure who he is trying to convince, us Preterists or himself? I just have to believe that he himself really knows the truth, but money is a great motivator and for him and folks like him, they don't want to let go of the cash cow. They have sold untold millions of books on this issue and I don't see him changing his views, after all he probably has all kinds of stuff he still needs to pay for!
