One of my best friends saw it last night, the church he goes to booked a theater for a pre-release showing last night. He said he didn't see it as anti-Semitic. Also said it was one of the worst movies he's seen in decades.

Not sure why, but my posts haven't been going thru so I'm logged under a different spelling - anyway, the film... I just saw it tonite. Go See it! Please everyone, PLEASE GO SEE IT. Everything bad that's been said about it is simply untrue. I am undone.

I saw on the news last night that The Passion opened the third highest in the history of Wednesday movie openings with $27+ million. #1 LOTR: Return Of The King and #2 one of the Star Wars recent episodes.

All three are good triumphing over evil movies. A pleasant thought. I have a ticket (along with 1/2 my church) to see it tomorrow night. I'm excited about it for 2 reasons. One, the ministry opportunities God will create through it. Two, I hope Christ impacts me in a deeper way that helps me walk the straight and narrow better.

Well, I think it'd time I de-lurked and started sharing thoughts here from time to time. I really like this site and enjoy reading many of the insightful articles posted here.

I haven't seen the movie yet (I'm planning on seeing it later next week after the crowds thin out a bit). But I was thinking about the risk that Gibson took in making this film. He put up $25 mil of his own money and an additional $15 mil for promotion. All because he was responding to a conviction that he believes that God placed on his heart. He did this without concern for the future of his career. Ya gotta admire a man like that...a whole lot!

But, I'm thinking of the challenge that lays at our feet. I know that there's gotta be hundreds of Mel Gibsons in the church with equally powerful visions and desires to communicate God's love for mankind, yet they cannot produce those visions because of a lack of funds and support.

My question is this. How could we begin to develop or pool resources to find and fund these visionaries to produce media that would work to communicate God's good news?

My biggest fear in even thinking about this is that in attempting this what might be produced is nothing more than another "Christian" media company that produces nothing different than the current schlock that is produced by most Christian production companies (i.e. crap like the "Left Behind" movies or the Jesus film by Campus Crusade).

Is it truly possible for the Christian world to produce excellent, moving and powerful art that competes and succeds against much of the Hollywood junk that is out there today?

What do you think?
