"In the 38th chapter of Ezekiel, it says that the land of Israel will come under attack by the armies of the ungodly nations, and it says that Lybia will be among them. Do you understand the significance of that? Lybia has now gone communist, and that's a sign that the day of Armageddon isn't far off."

News: Church and State: Bishops Consider Sanctions for Politicians
Posted on Monday, November 10 @ 19:22:32 PST by Parker

PlanetPreterist Columns by Parker
The nation's Roman Catholic bishops said Monday they are considering whether to recommend sanctions for Catholic politicians who favor policies contrary to church teaching on abortion and other issues. Bishop Joseph Galante states that "moral theologians would have to decide whether a Catholic politician who votes for abortion rights facilitated the procedure and should therefore be excommunicated."

I wish more churches would take this path...maybe considering excommunicating politicians that promote unbiblical values....

Hi Virgil. I agree. The Church's voice matters, especially when it speaks with unity and when combined with concerted efforts to effect change. There is no more powerful constituency on the planet than Christ's body. United, the Church has every means at its disposal to promote and maintain a righteous society.

Virgil and Parker,

Sounds like you guys are advocating a theocracy??? Right now we're outnumbered by secular humanists and liberal churches that straddle that fence, so if we vote for establishing a theocracy, we're not going to like the outcome!

My recommendation is to support the Constitution, or what's left of it, as intended. Hopefully people's character and values will be developed as they grow up in a church enviroment, but we'll never shed ourselves of the Christians-in-name-only of the Bill and Hillary variety, or the secular hedonists either. Until Kennedy, people in this country wouldn't vote for Catholics on a national level because they were afraid the Vatican would install a hotline to the Oval Office. How'd you like to have the head of the Southern Baptist Convention or the new gay Anglican bishop regularly advising the president? I'd rather send out an army of Christians independently to win our battles in the free market place of ideas, rather than apply the brick bat from above. We like to try to win our battles (like prayer in schools, pro-life, etc.) in the courts and legislatures, but until we win people's hearts one-on-one with our gentle, reasonable arguments and personal conduct, such a theocracy will never work!

Dave
